Monitor the Juma prayer khutbas for hate speech: An excellent initiative

We have been forwarded the following statement via Facebook

“There is HOPE!!!! Altaf Hussain has instructed all MQM workers to monitor Juma prayers khutbas all over Karachi. If any cleric is guilty of inciting hatred and violence, the worker must check openly him then and there, report him and leave the mosque. This is just one step the MQM has taken among several to curb …extremism and lawlessness which will be revealed later. Yayyyyyy! Mullah gardi naheen chalay gi. I request you all to copy paste this status and spread it as far as possible.”

The above is a welcome initiative by Citizens of Democracy which is a civil society group. We at PTH feel that at this time all the liberal elements should join forces and ensure that no clergy is able to spew hatred and incite violence through Juma prayer khutbas. We have to understand that the clergy have often been successfully able to provoke people to indulge in violence and therefore it becomes pertinent that we should actively monitor them.

Here we would like to appreciate Citizens of Democracy members because they actually lodged FIR against Sultan Masjid (Defense Karachi) clerc for hate speech

MQM, ANP, JWP, BNP and other such parties need to work together to root out extremism and save this nation.

I must commend Altaf Bhai and MQM for this initiative, only a violent group can oppose the mullahs.

If this idea works, it will be the first step in reclaiming the mosque from the mullah. The best option is to privatize the mosque and for the neighborhood, instead of the government, to pay the mullah’s monthly salary. This way, if the mullah preaches stupidity, one can always get another person to replace him.

I really miss the days of the old. I still laugh when I remember that one day my younger brother, who must have been 6 or 7, went into the mosque wearing a t-shirt that had an image of 3 little pigs! No one said anything.

This is an awesome initiative. I have my own views against Altaf and his MQM but this step is highly appreciated. We strongly condemn Mullah created hate based on religions, cast and sect. Pakistan was not created for Mullah or Islamist; it was created for Muslims living peacefully with people of other faiths. Mullah you have no space in this country, leave it or live peacefully.

Rays of light and hope start to peek through from the most unexpected places.

Many God fearing people have been questioning for a long time why people say their prayers behind a bigot mullah. What spiritual benefit they derive from a congregation led by a a person who incites for mayhem and murder?

The banner declaring Christians, Jews, and Ahmadis enemies of Islam boldly hangs on the door step of the Lahore High Court. Why do the honorable members of the judiciary perform the hypocritical ritual of passage under the hate filled banner like the passage of a new bride under a holy scripture?

Next in line are the media people and the hate mongers trolling the net. FIRs must be filed against the people and the management if and when they sponsor bigotry and hatred.

Which civilized nation you are talking about? I can send you many radio broadcast from America which would prove you wrong. Nobody in America has been convicted for hate speech even though five people were murdered as a consequence of such hate filled urging.
