Aitzaz Ahsan clarifies
January 17th, 2011 | 12 Comments
LAHORE: Referring to a Daily Times report, titled ‘Blasphemy law should remain intact’ published on January 11, former Supreme Court Bar president Aitzaz Ahsan on Tuesday issued a clarification.
The clarification read, “What I had precisely stated was that those who support Section 295-C PPC and oppose any amendment in the law should also ensure that it is adhered to and not violated. I pointed out to the supporters of the blasphemy law that there was a contradiction in their position. On the one hand, they supported 295-C. On the other hand they endorsed its violation by people who take the law into their own hands. Salmaan Taseer’s death proved that precisely those people who support 295-C were making it redundant and dysfunctional. This was illogical on the face of it. If they want to have the 295-C, they must ensure that it is adhered to and people do not go on an extra-judicial killing spree. Any other attribution to me is wrong.”

Crook again wraps his establishment line in twisted wording!
Those who support 295-c should ensure that it is not misused? Are they state? Who you are fooling Mr. Aitazaz. It is state’s responsibility to ensure that no one can abuse it and make necessary changes in it or repeal it!!
Say it anyway! clarification is worst than clear support for Blasphemy law!
“What I had precisely stated was that those who support Section 295-C PPC and oppose any amendment in the law should also ensure that it is adhered to and not violated.”…..If they want to have the 295-C, they must ensure that it is adhered to and people do not go on an extra-judicial killing spree. Any other attribution to me is wrong.”
Mr Aitzaz Ahsan,Aasiya Bibi death sentence is in adherence with 295-C and by no means violates the law of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. So you are advocating Aasiya Bibi’s death sentence to be carried out as it is according to the law.
Aitzaz Ahsan cannot be trusted.
Aitzaz Ahsan has issued the clarification to confuse the issue and to give himself the option to say that he was misunderstood and this way, keep all his options open and is an opportunist par excellence.
ciao
I concur with Feroz Khan.
How does one ensure that a ballistic law like the blasphemy law is not abused? Even the prophets were incapable of imposing such laws. It is lunacy to make a law which requires another law to use the first law correctly. Do these people have nothing else to do with their time?
AA clarification is nothing but hypocrisy is disguise. The BL is poison without an ante dote. It messes with godly realms. It is a blasphemy.
What Aitzaz Ahsan said is exactly what i have been thinking throughout these days.
Mullah brigade is so brain-less, they can never understand this contradiction.
I am at a loss to understand why everyone here is lashing out at Aitzaz Ahsan. In his clarification he didn’t say he supports kaala qanoon. He only said “those who support………”
As i understood it, he seems to be against kaala qanoon.
@ DSK
Not sharing his critical opinion on blasphemy law on first place and than giving critical opinion on supporter of blasphemy law is shameful act.
If are self proclaimed liberal are avoids commenting on blasphemy law than how can we achieve amendment / abolishment of Blasphemy law. Taseer died cause he objected the process of witness in case of blasphemy . As far I know 500 Uleema has given Fatwa against taseer . That would have probably enough to achieve taseer execution in lahore high court.
I am reminded of a humorous couplet:
Sharab bhi piyo aur chanda bhi do masjid mein
Ta kay Khuda bhi khush rahay aur Shaitan bhi naraz na ho
Uzer ghuna bad tar az ghuna
CLAUDIO. Death is a fearful thing.
ISABELLA. And shamed life a hateful.
CLAUDIO. Ay, but to die, and go we know not where;
To lie in cold obstruction, and to rot;
This sensible warm motion to become
A kneaded clod; and the delighted spirit
To bathe in fiery floods or to reside
In thrilling region of thick-ribbed ice;
To be imprison’d in the viewless winds,
And blown with restless violence round about
The pendent world; or to be worse than worst
Of those that lawless and incertain thought
Imagine howling- ’tis too horrible.
The weariest and most loathed worldly life
That age, ache, penury, and imprisonment,
Can lay on nature is a paradise
To what we fear of death.
Aitazaz Ahsan is perhaps Claudio
Aitazaz has opioned on imporant issue in a v criical time and in a society which has been won over by the shameless ,brainless and aimless fundamentilists who dnt believe in logic or dialogue.At this stage we should respect people/intellectuals and thinktanks talking on sensetive issues even wth least liberal and progessive approach,and we al know that aitazaz is a progressive leader(not revoluionary in a sense) and we dont wan to loose him at any cost by the brutals who have no respect for humanity
