Long Live Bhutto, For Ever And Ever
By D. Asghar
Even those who did hate him with a passion, cannot discard his genius. A man with remarkably unparalleled intelligence and unmatched spontaneity, the one and only Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
His passion in front of the crowd was one of a kind. Who ever met with him once, called him unforgettable. From the mystic land of Sindh, came this gem, who made his share of blunders, but gave Pakistan and Pakistanis a new vision. Who uplifted the souls of many, and left with a vacuum, which remains unfilled, even after 32 long years.
The bold and often brash Bhutto, who was revered by many and envied by a whole lot for his guts. No matter where your political leaning may have been, you could just not ignore him. Undoubtedly, a man with a vision for Pakistan. A modern, progressive and different Pakistan.
32 long years and it is his name and his charisma, which can be credited for his party’s survival, till this day. A so called dead Bhutto still wins against many who are seemingly alive. Why is their so much reverence for a dead person? The answer may be hidden inside your heart.
In Pakistan the ideological and political divide is either Bhutto or anti Bhutto. The anti Bhutto clan wants the status quo and wants the supremacy of the Establishment. Zia really underestimated the power of a dead Bhutto. He thought that by dispatching an eccentric ZAB to the gallows, in the wee hours of April 04, 1979, he will become the Ameer Ul Momineen.
Little did Zia know that, people like Bhutto may vanish physically, but ideologically they permeate within hearts and minds. Every April 04, I wonder what would have been the direction of Pakistan, had ZAB been around. Something inside tells me, it would have been definitely different. April 04, 1979 was the turning point in the history of Pakistan. Regretfully, it was another dark day in our history. It sure seems like many of the predictions made by Bhutto, in his final book, “If I am assassinated”, did come true. From an old fan to his fallen comrade, “Jeeyey Bhutto Sada Jeeyey”, in our hearts forever.

Yeah Bhutto what a guy – the man responsible for allowing religion to enter Pakistani politics – we have a lot to be thankful for.
[...] Long Live Bhutto, For Ever And Ever [...]
Ironic. Pakistan celebrates the death of a man responsible for ruining it and fondly remembers his words, each year, but does not celebrate the death of the man, who created it or bothers to remember what Jinnah said with the same zeal.
ciao
@Feroz – spot on – next we will be lamenting the passing of Zia and hailing Zardari as the most honest and gifted president we have ever had.
Bhutto legacy can be summed up in two words – utter failure.
Oh Well! Lady Guinevere just had to balk at that word, “OBEDIENCE”! I WILL NOT WEAR A BURKA!

Go easy on the jyala diet
A great tribute to a Machiavellian Prince…. Pity!
Man what is up with the PTH Bhutto tributes. What’s next? Dirges and hymns glorifying Zia? Perhaps some laudatory articles praising the foresight and foreskins of SSP, TTP and the hirsute brigade, including the Awwal brigand Maudoooooooooooodi?
@Octavian – have to say I too am mystified. Although its not just PTH – the Express Tribune and some other outlets also seem to be in laudatory mood.
Mr. Hafiz recently wrote an excellent piece on Mr. Bhutto.
