Have You Ever Wondered How Rich You Actually Are?

By Sidrah Zaheer

If you can see, hear, smell, taste and have tactile sense, then you have a lot to be thankful for. If you have all of your limbs working properly, you have a lot to be grateful for. If you can clothe yourself, eat healthily and live under a roof of your own house, you have a lot to be gratified with. If you have had an opportunity of getting an education, you have a lot to be hopeful for.

If you have had all of that, and yet you are not considering yourself to be amongst the lucky few in this world, then you need a serious revision of how people live and die in this world. Regardless of what your social and financial status be, you are amongst the very few who can do all of the above mentioned things, because you have a computer and an internet access. In today’s world of modern media, internet accessibility has been declared as a basic human right. And yet, dreaming about having an internet access is far down the list than dreaming about having to get another meal, quenching thirst from clean water, having a shelter from sun and weather, being clothed and having shoes.

There are so many statistics that are still lacking to indicate what needs to be done, primarily because no surveys are conducted and no one reaches out to help those in desperate need. In a country like Pakistan, the government gives conservative estimates about how much poverty is there. A lot of people come out in the spirit of generosity and philanthropic measures are undertaken by those who can afford a better facility or luxury. But as the Chinese proverb goes, don’t catch a fish and give it to a man to eat, but rather teach him how to catch a fish so that next time he is able to feed himself.

In the world of economics driven by education, intellectual abilities and advance research, it is important that not only the bodies are fed, but the spirits and minds are fed too, with not just healthy food, but good moral and intellectual food for soul, thought and reflection. There is corruption at many levels, including in hearts and minds, which become the first breeding grounds of seeds of wrongful and unlawful deeds. If everyone’s energies are utilized positively the world will surely be a peaceful place to co-exist. It is a shame to waste so many billions of lives, when poor kids die of hunger or malnutrition, when men die out of hard labour being not given proper wages and when women die of having to work extra hard to see their families together.

More than half of the world lives in darkness, not because they are incapable of improving their lives, but because the other half does not give them a chance at improving their own lives. It might seem skeptical or a pessimistic view of the world, but having seen so much waste, there is no further inference than these thoughts. Global Rich List is a site that is a little reminder of how much you can be thankful for. All you have to do, is to enter your annual income in any of the given standard currencies and click on the button “Show me the money!”. It will generate your rich list position. It will tell in what percentage you fall into and will show your rank in the form of tiny 100 men and your position would be reddened.

The site gives a kind of a reminder of how you can share your wealth generously and be thankful for what you have and give hope for a life worth living for others. Your duty is not to share all that you have, but surely something from all that you have. That something will mean everything to somebody. Start charity from your own neigbourhood and community and begin your own social activism based on actions and not just words. Richness in character is invaluable.

The diagram above is very good, measuring poverty in numbers.

However a much more accurate diagram will measure poverty percentage wise, therefore giving a much accurate picture of global poverty. If anyone can find something like that, would be nice.

If you see closely, then the numbers inside the circles of each of the countries mentioned represent poverty in millions. For example in India, there are 456 million people under poverty. Anyone knowing India’s population of 1.2 billion would know that makes up to 38%.

When I was looking for images to put up with this article, I was convinced with this one as it showed in circular sizes how does poverty of each of these countries compared with one another. However, I do agree that an easier one might have been in percentages.

Are Pakistan’s numbers to be trusted?

The figure $1.25 per day will mean different things in different countries. For example, someone in India may be able to survive with that amount but someone in the US cannot, I think. A graph showing country wise poverty in terms of caloric value ( meaning a minimum amount of caloric intake per day) will be very useful, though even then India ( and perhaps all of South Asia ) would fare quite badly.

    Population control is the key.

India started as a non-belligerent, progress and science oriented country. But Pakistan started the Kashmir war and many later wars, China invaded and occupied Tibet and started claiming more land into India, USA backed Pakistan and its fascism and hate against hindus, UK played its typical british duplicitous and racist role … and India was forced to spend on armaments, famines, diseases etc. Muslims in India refused to practise family planning increasing their population (and fascist ideological) burden on India from 6.5% to 17%.

All such factors played a decisive role in pulling down India badly.

It took the USA and UK (these scoundrels) 60 years to realize that they had played a devilish role in the indian subcontinent (ISC) by backing the sunni fascist Pakistanis. And I am still not sure that they have realized it.

This certainly affected India badly (it still does and the end is still not visible) – but as time rolled on, even Pakistan began to slip downwards fast and faster. Far more foreign money came into Pakistan than in India – but the long term effect thereof has proved to be disastrous for Pakistan.

Today Pakistan has lost hope, name, reputation, chances, honour, youth, intelligence, honesty … everything that makes for a good human society. It is just a quisling-client-vassal state owned by sunni fascists in the service of Arabs, Saudis, China, USA, North Korea and the like. Hate and dishonesty mark its tattered flag and its only “tauhid and iman”.

India is on the knees – but not hopeless. India still has some horrible social ills – but it is progressing. Like a patient, hit by a car driven by a madman (or madmen), slowly recovering.

Very noble thoughts! did the author forget to mention the most important funtioning feature of a human. We can talk and learn to talk several languages to communicate with the wider world and have the brain to think, immagine, pioneer, improvise thus enabling us to understand and utilize the enormous opportunities which the universe represents. Having stated the basics we must also have the belief in the creator, the constructor who has provided us with scriptures, outlining the instuctions for the correct functioning of a human body.

There are many who can talk themselves to hating others, indulge in the game of blaming the religious clerics, political leaders and the world at large. They can even talk themselves to death with fear and paranoia. We must believe in the medicine which the Doctor prescribes as a cure for our illness BEFORE we take it. Is it not written in the scriptures that we feed ourself with our mouths? We must have the faith and speak out loud and follow the author and believe in eliminationg the poverty not only in Pakistan but the wider world.

Let us recognise that there are many ,who believe in positive thinking, innovation as well as improvisation and are busy in advancing the good for all humans in this world.

For muslims Zakat is not meant as a voluntary contribution, nor a philonthrapic enterprise, but a must and should be organised by the State in the 21st century. Similarly Jehad for the Ummah is not solely meant to resist aggressions, its purpose is also to collectively venture to resist poverty, disease and other disasters. If the states cannot organise the collection of the Zakat, then the NGO must undertake in the interim until a leader with a vision is able to undertake the project. I am sure in most countries it is being followed. For a the function of the democracy, peoples litercy level must be upgrade so that hey vare able to elect the right political leader.

For Pakistan the solution is easy. God created the land of pure and gave them divine knowledge and instructions. All they have to do is implement them. May be start by learning Arabic.

For kuffar, let’s not worry about them – god made them kuffar for a reason.

  10. ahem Germany Mozilla Firefox Windows says:

    to milestogo

Why are you misleading pakistanis by flattering them? The flatterer is actually the enemy who wishes to destroy through flattery. Pakistan is not land of the pure in the sense of goodness or reason. It is the land of pure hatred, anger, irrationality, backwardness, increasing islamic fascism etc. all in PURE forms.

What pakistanis believe to be “divine knowledge” is actually primtive arab tribal fascism full of banalities, idiocies, arrogances etc. raised to the “level” of “divine knowledge”. Any muslim who doubts that they are “divinities” is threatened with death.

Whoever praises islam is an enemy of the muslimized human beings.

God made the kuffar (=non-muslims) to tell and prove to the muslims that the muslims are fools led by fascists and primitive tribalists.

    @ahem
Is it difficult for you to reach the level of Milestogo? This guy is satiric and has never in my opinion flattered any individal blogger! Buy yourself the kind of fliers that depict drawigs and sketches and very few words. You are going to improve your sense for satires and humour.

Your non stop-critic of current as well as pre 197 countrymen, is getting very provincial. Remember, the majority of Pakistani muslims are much closer to you than they are to arabs. They are struggling to prove to themselves that they are full blooded muslims.

Not so, they were blessed for trying it, but it is not that easy after having lived the thousand years of history mostly as non muslims!

The more pakistanis are forced or manipulated or encouraged to be muslims and imitators of arabs the more they will loose their dignity, self-respect and rationality. Thankfully they have a non-muslim and non-arab past which they have still not completely forgotten. And this memory will help them out someday. But the more they try to prove themselves to be “full-blooded muslims” the more they will cause self-destruction.

Muslims can’t understand satire and humour because Mohammad could not tolerate it or allow it.

  14. Milestogo United States Safari iPhone says:

    Ahem

I think we are both right. Here is an analogy for you.

I told my toddler to not touch the hot cup of tea but she wouldn’t listen. It’s a daily struggle. One day I let her touch it – now she knows. Now she won’t touch it even if I ask her to.

Beliefs can not be changed by instruction – you need to let people experience it.

But the same analogy will not apply if my girl was playing with electric wires or poisonous snake.

Same way Islam of today has lost most of its steam – it can not take down the humanity. It probably can but the chances are remote and kuffar is adequately prepared for a response.

  15. ahem Germany Mozilla Firefox Windows says:

    to milestogo

It is about a poisonous snake coiled around your child’s future.

Islam is using it pregnant muslim women and new born muslim children as weapons/instruments of (demographic)aggression – how are non-muslims “adequately” able to defend themselves against that?

Islam is taking down humanity. You seem not to notice it. It is like someone saying I never saw a tree grow even though I watched it for an hour.

  17. Rex Minor Germany Google Chrome Windows says:

    ahem,

For heave sake, try to understand Miles to go philosophic statements. You and many more muslims and non muslims failed to follow Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophical statements and with the standard use of certain vocabulary. not meant for a reigion, you are surely loosing awareness of the occurances in the world. Do not be friends with evil regardless wherever, it comes from. Be good and believe in good and you shall see good. Otherwise you could even talk yourself to death.

Islam leads away from the path of good. Islam leads to the path of becoming a quisling of arabs (arab imperialism) and to preach and practise a totalitarian ideology. So your statements are very occluded, as if you sit in front of a wall and/or talk to yourself in delirium or in a delusions of grand achievements. Have your friends noticed anything like that on you?

More Take Than Give: Philanthropy In India

In this time of global financial crisis, when so many are suffering financial hardship, most countries have increased their number of dollar millionaires. The number of ‘High Net-Worth Individuals’ (HNWI), according to a report by Capgemini and Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, has increased dramatically in India. In 2008-09, India had 84,000 HNWIs.
