Our great heritage

Dismissing outright the contention of conversion was forcible, Eaton ascribes it to the influence of living qazis and buried saints, arguing that the shrines of saints who had died, exercise a great hold on population then a living saint.
There is much support to Eaton’s contention. The Sultan could vanquish the Raja, but he could not vanquish the Sadhu. To meet the Indian people at the spiritual level, a Sufi was needed. As we have seen, Khwaja Moinudin chishti could enter the domain of Prithviraj Chohan before Ghauri. The sword of Sultan was a double edged. It created the political space for conversion and simultaneously created ill-will among Hindus, not a sentiment inductive of a change in religion. So an impetus of change was created in reality by the love, harmony and kindness of Sufis. (Writes Mr. Kazmi in his book Concise History of Pakistan Oxford publication in chapter of conversion from Hindus to Muslim)
The word Sufi is derived from the word Safa, meaning purity in Arabic. Sufis are mystics who aim for a closer union with a God. The earliest historical figure to be identified as a Sufi was Hasan Al Basri ( 728 A.D) reputedly a disciple of Imam and caliph Ali Ibne Abi Talib. It was the figure of Ali which encouraged Sufis to be called Wali ( plural Awlia). Leaving the luxuries, flamboyance and extravagance of the world and leading the life of austerity, humbleness and chasteness are the hallmark of Sufism. Sufism is the aspect of Islam which makes me proud of being a Muslim. Sufism is the feather in Islam’s cap and no doubt Sufis are the protagonists of Islam and cultural heritage of sub-continent.
I am vivified when I see Amir Khusro`s contribution to the music. Khusro composed new ragas, he was hailed as a Nayak, one proficient in theory and practice of past and present music. He contributed equally to the evolution of folk music and Qawwali, the devotional Sufi music. He is also credited with inventing, among the other instruments, the sitar .It makes me ebullient when I see the likes of Madhu Lal Hussein, his name was Shah Hussein but he is known to the world as Madhu Lal Hussein. It was because Shah Hussein’s love for a Hindu boy Madhu Lal that they both are often referred to as a single person. Madho`s tomb lies next to Hussein’s in the shrine. This shows how Muslim Sufis were cheek by jowl with other religions like Hinduism. We are lovers of humanity our ancestors have shown this, we do not make differences on the basis of religion. I feel elated when I see the glory of Sakhi Shahbaz Qalandar, I see the people of every class, creed, caste and religion on his shrine together, dancing( dhamaals) , singing( qasidas) and giving the message of peace and harmony. There are no differences; everyone is welcomed with open arms. It makes me complacent when I see poor people from every section of society getting three times a day free of cost food( Langar) from the tomb of Data Ganj Bakhsh. These shrines are not only the sanctified graves but they are also institutions of social welfare. Likewise, the teachings of every saint or ascetic when came to light made me aware of serene ingenuity of my religion.
I am a Pakistani who is proud to have such a garish and eclectic cultural history of awlia Allah and Sufis. I am a Muslim and I am not a terrorist. My ancestors were not terrorists. They were the source of enlightenment to the whole world. They were ultra modern in providing me with the heritage of poetry, music, dance and the prodigious monuments. I represent Pakistan, my land is the symbol of love, it is the symbol of affection, it is the symbol of kindness, and it is the symbol of peace and friendship.
And I disown and curse the elements spreading hatred to mankind, whatever their religion may be. I lament over the killings of innocent. I anathemise over those who desecrated the grave of Rehman Baba, who attacked on the shrine of Data Ganj Baksh, Bari Imam and Hussein Shah Ghazi. I bemoan over the attacks on Mosques, Imam Bargahs, churches and temples. I execrate those who are killing the Hazara community. I detach myself from those who killed hundreds of Iraqi children, for killing two American soldiers who came to distribute candies among the children in the school. Pity on the bestial mindset which killed Salman Taseer and on General Jihad Molvi Zia Ul Haq during the reign of whom a blind girl was stoned to death, her only mistake was that she was raped but was unable to provide four pious Muslims as witnesses. Consequently, she was charged of adultery and stoned to death in the cover of Hadood Ordinance.
Mysticism is one of the surreal abstracts of Islam. Many people consider mysticism as heavenly abode for their soles and it gives them some surreptitious cherishment.
I am a Muslim and disown, refute, curse and condemn any tinge of hatred, bigotry and rigidity. My religion is the religion of the Saints who devoted their lives for humanity, who worked for the betterment of society, who never differentiated people on the basis of religion. I tell the world that there are some surly goons who have entered in a peaceful religion and are contaminating it. We don’t belong to these philistines but we belong to the hollowed saints and their secular teachings.

Now is your turn to refer to Bible and Tora which has an internationaly recognised translation in English and try to interpret what is recommended the treatment of non believers, pure and simle stoning and death. Mind you Moses received a direct commandment from God to tell the Israelites not to kill; while Tora commands death for Non Communals and Non Believers.
Besides in my opinion, Mahatma gandhi was a real non violent believer and Indira Gandhi was a violent believer.

I dont think anyone is bashing islam per se but what goes for islam in Pakiland. Arabs created a country not because they were muslims but because they were Arabs. Religion came afterwards. Yes there is the historical vestage also but it is not germane to what you said.Whereas Pakiland is the country created primarily based on religion. Since Religion is the defacto glue for the country one obviously has to discuss the religion as it is practised there. Discussing it any other way would be bullshitting aka intelluctual masterbating.

Does one blame the university or the stipulated qualifications if a student is unable to meet the standards and fail? Deeds are the determining factors and inviduals are responsible for their acts and not their faiths. Indian Govt. is conducting a systimised torture against the Kashmiris and it is the Indian Govt which shall one day stand in the Dock and not Hinduism, communism, Atheism or Sikhism per say. This morning there was a knock at my door. When I answered the door I found a well groomed, nicely dressed couple. The man spoke first:
John: “Hi! I’m John, and this is Mary.”

Me: “That doesn’t make any sense. Why…”
Mary: “Who are you to question Hank’s gift? Don’t you want a million dollars? Isn’t it worth a little kiss on the ass?”

Me: “Who’s Karl?”
Mary: “A friend of ours. He’s the one who taught us all about kissing Hank’s ass. All we had to do was take him out to dinner a few times.”
Me: “And you just took his word for it when he said there was a Hank, that Hank wanted you to kiss His ass, and that Hank would reward you?”
John: “Oh no! Karl has a letter he got from Hank years ago explaining the whole thing. Here’s a copy; see for yourself.”

John: “No way! Item 5 says ‘Hank dictated this list himself.’ Besides, item 2 says ‘Use alcohol in moderation,’ Item 4 says ‘Eat right,’ and item 8 says ‘Wash your hands after going to the bathroom.’ Everyone knows those things are right, so the rest must be true, too.”
Me: “But 9 says ‘Don’t use alcohol.’ which doesn’t quite go with item 2, and 6 says ‘The moon is made of green cheese,’ which is just plain wrong.”
John: “There’s no contradiction between 9 and 2, 9 just clarifies 2. As far as 6 goes, you’ve never been to the moon, so you can’t say for sure.”
Me: “Scientists have pretty firmly established that the moon is made of rock…”
Mary: “But they don’t know if the rock came from the Earth, or from out of space, so it could just as easily be green cheese.”
Me: “I’m not really an expert, but I think the theory that the Moon was somehow ‘captured’ by the Earth has been discounted*. Besides, not knowing where the rock came from doesn’t make it cheese.”
John: “Ha! You just admitted that scientists make mistakes, but we know Hank is always right!”
Me: “We do?”
Mary: “Of course we do, Item 7 says so.”
Me: “You’re saying Hank’s always right because the list says so, the list is right because Hank dictated it, and we know that Hank dictated it because the list says so. That’s circular logic, no different than saying ‘Hank’s right because He says He’s right.’”
John: “Now you’re getting it! It’s so rewarding to see someone come around to Hank’s way of thinking.”
Me: “But…oh, never mind. What’s the deal with wieners?”
Mary: She blushes.
John: “Wieners, in buns, no condiments. It’s Hank’s way. Anything else is wrong.”
Me: “What if I don’t have a bun?”
John: “No bun, no wiener. A wiener without a bun is wrong.”
Me: “No relish? No Mustard?”
Mary: She looks positively stricken.
John: He’s shouting. “There’s no need for such language! Condiments of any kind are wrong!”
Me: “So a big pile of sauerkraut with some wieners chopped up in it would be out of the question?”
Mary: Sticks her fingers in her ears.”I am not listening to this. La la la, la la, la la la.”
John: “That’s disgusting. Only some sort of evil deviant would eat that…”
Me: “It’s good! I eat it all the time.”
Mary: She faints.
John: He catches Mary. “Well, if I’d known you were one of those I wouldn’t have wasted my time. When Hank kicks the shit out of you I’ll be there, counting my money and laughing. I’ll kiss Hank’s ass for you, you bunless cut-wienered kraut-eater.”
With this, John dragged Mary to their waiting car, and sped off.
Funny part is – if a scientific discovery is later disproved – then you can go back to Quran and surprisingly you will now find that it was never mentioned in Quran.

Science, wheather temporal or spiritual is for men of Knowledge who have the mental ability to analyze ,understand, sustain and disseminate the knowledge . In contrast Belief is for ignorants who have not mentally evolved to such level yet to reasonably exploit the intellectual capabilties of human being. In present time, internet has made them part of varieties in life as per the nature’ own evolutionary plan. The light of Knowledge will remove the darkness of dark Beliefs and fear of angry God , hell and other life sucking threats. A man of spiritual knowledge will never insult Godhood by atatching “fear” to Divine Supreme which is the very source of Fearlessness.

I started life in a Muslim family in Iran. My mom and dad were not religious and never forced me to follow Islam in any way. As a curious child I began exploring Islam and got involved in it. By the age of 12 I was actively involved in school prayers.
It all started to go wrong (or rather right) when my Quran teacher mentioned that believers of other faith would not go to heaven. At the time my best friend was a Christian and I knew with certainty that if there was a heaven and a just god, he would have to be letting him into his heaven.
I started studying Islam in greater detail. I began reading the translations of Quran to understand what the scriptures meant and what I discovered were shocking. It was a cruel, outdated and morally wrong book very obviously copied from other religions put up by a man.
The contents didn’t make the slightest sense in the current moral view of the world. I secretly ceased being a Muslim by the age of 15. I focused all my effort into science. I soon found out that science answered questions that religion could not ever begin to discuss. And when it did not know the answer, it never claim to have them.
Five years ago I started reading books by Richard Dawkins and the Christopher Hitchin which further sealed my emotions against Islam. Today I publicly deny Islam in every chance I get. Because I feel,it is important that people know that the loud minority of religious fundementalist are not the representatives of any middle eastern country.
And I have this vision of a middle east clear of Islam and other superstitions. The only way to achieve is by educating and being vocal against Islam. I hope I can do my share.

I used to be a devoted muslim full of love to Allah. I used to practice every aspect of Islam. I went to an Islamic madrasah and learned Arabic, Quran and Tafsir at the age of 16. I’ve been able to read and understand Quran in Arabic which made me very doubtful about Islam because some part of Quran is absolutely nonsense and ridiculous. It was driving me mad, I discussed hundreds of ambiguous and nonsense part of Quran with Islamic scholars but I haven’t received even one strait answer from them.
When I went to university in Iran I became interested in literature and philosophy. I started to read Nietzsche, Sartre and Camus. Friedrich Nietzsche Opened a new world to me and Jean Paul Sartre took me to the absurd reality of existence and Camus brightened a fresh pleasant life for me. I always remember Camus who says “Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead. Just walk beside me and be my friend”. In the UK, I’ve seen people can live in peace and friendship without any need to follow someone or to be followed by anyone.
I’ve joined in CEMB to help my friends who their basic human rights have been taken by the oppressive Islamic states, to help them to be free of being lashed, jailed, amputated and executed, to help them to just live as humans, as simple humans

I am basically from pakistan but have been living and working – as an NHS doctor – in the UK for the past decade. My parents were middle class people whose prime emphasis in my upbringing was to provide me with an excellent education and a comfortable life. My mother, a housewife all her life, always was – and still is – very religious and taught me namaz and quran. My late father, a doctor himself, was more open minded and often used to question islam except in his later years when he started going to the mosque regularly and did haj (most certainly due to the influence of the pakistani society around him). I was always more questioning than my siblings about many aspects of islam (they still remain quite religious) and prayed and fasted only because my family and other relatives around me did so too (more of a communal rituality rather than something I wholeheartedly concurred with). Somehow, islamic beliefs and practices didn’t make much sense to me.
Not living amongst loads and loads of brainwashed, uber-emotive, bigoted sheep, i.e. pakistan; maintaining interest in enhancing my understanding of the marvels and beauty of science; listening to sensible, intelligent rationalists like Richard Dawkins and thorough perusal of articles on your site and many others which dissect and expose the ugliness of islam by mentioning and referencing its own pivotal teachings (quran and ahadith) have finally convinced me to give up that backward thing called islam. All religions, in my view, are risible fairy tales anyway but my main issues with this medieval creation of illiterate, savage bedouins are:
* The depraved, murderous nature of its founder – as evident from ahadith themselves!
* The moronic practices it imposes on its followers as ‘farz’ – no, I’m no longer interested in torturing myself with that absurd ramadan fasting rubbish (definitely unhealthy – it is a medical fact that dehydrating oneself all day is damaging to human physiology, let alone doing so for a whole month!!!) or that stupid ‘requirement’ of prostrating in humiliating postures to an imaginary being five times daily!!!
* The blatantly visible connection between islam and present day terrorism as well as blood curdling violations of human rights. I’m now sick and tired of so called moderate muslims trying to fool everyone with fundamentally false statements like islam is a religion of peace. No it is not. It teaches its followers to kill – what else is jihad??? It isn’t a term invented by present day criminals who are just using the name of islam. It is entrenched in the very foundations, establishment and early spread (profoundly unfortunate as it curses humanity to this day) of this cult.
So, I am relieved and proud to be free of the evil of islam and now consider myself to be a secular humanist. I have not yet revealed this to anyone in my family including my (quite religious) spouse as I am sure that, if I do, the reaction will be emphatically unfavourable. Your site is the first that I have posted my views on; I shall continue to do so on other similar sites. I feel that, for peace and harmony to prevail amongst humankind, it is essential to rid the world of islam. That will be done by continuing to expose it and encourage its deluded followers to leave this system of barbaric ignorance and take more interest in understanding the beauties of scientific discovery which continue to enlighten humanity and broaden its horizons.
