Tahir-ul-Qadri and Doomsday Conspiracy

By Abrar Kureshy

Ok this comes in a little late as I was confused on 21st December about what to do. Curse Mayan calendar for wrongly scaring the whole world for nothing, watch the movie 2012 again and laugh or consider it alright as self-claimed “Sheikh-ul-Islam” Prof. Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri was “launched” in Pakistan on that day and in Nazir Naji’s words, after this incident we don’t need a separate doomsday.

Whole world almost gone crazy about probable occurrence of doomsday and did pre-emptive measures to counter the calamities and we Pakistanis, as always, welcomed the sugar coated calamity with arms wide open.

I personally don’t like to bother about ‘conspiracy theories’ but this matter is of slightly different nature. Mr. Qadri has been a controversial character ever-since he gained popularity back in 90’s, first that [fake attack story][1] and then countless [revelations that Sheikh-ul-Islam sb came up with][2] time to time.

Here’s a small story that I read in Ashfaq Ahmed’s Zavia-1. It goes like once a saint was travelling with one of his followers and they saw a snake, badly hurt and about to die. Saint picked up the snake, fed him, kept in safe custody until that snake came back to life and first thing he did, was bit saint’s hand. Saint calmly took him off his hands and continued travelling. Follower inquired about the incident, saint replied ‘it’s his way of expressing gratitude, all snakes bite regardless of how you deal them’. Story ends here and many readers would recall the first political stunt of Qadri sb when he accused Mian Nawaz Sharif of attacking him and whole episode was found fake ([court’s remarks in link][3]). I don’t support any party’s political agenda here just that Mian Sharif was the one who gave Tahir-ul-Qadri wings to fly and his son was the first person whom Qadri sb chose for character assassination. It doesn’t mean I called Mian Sb a saint or Qadri sb a snake, these were mere characters of the story to make my point. He might return the favor in similar manner in days to come.

Tahir-ul-Qadri who went in self-exile and moved to Canada for “research” purposes is known to twist facts and manipulate his own statements as and when required. This [video, that I found online][4], is testimonial of the fact. He has done a great damage to the religion Islam ever since he got audience. He might be welcomed by ‘secular’ circles within the country but a common man never want such ‘enlightened moderation’ that is achieved on cost of one’s own identity and ideology.

Now comes the part of Qadri’s return and agenda. He runs an NPO namely ‘Minhaj-ul-Qura’n’ which has many donors worldwide and this institution provides both religious and worldly education to students. Pakistani’s witnessed massive TV campaign about Qadri’s return and message with posters and banners well placed in all the places in major cities. Now the question arises, who is supporting Qadri? Who sponsored his campaign and bearing all other expenses? The message that Qadri gave is not new. As mentioned by honorable Nazir Naji sb in his urdu column on 22nd December, this slogan, with different versions, has been used before as well. All our dictators chanted the same slogan and needles to say what they did to Pakistan, so will Qadri sb, if God-forbid, he comes to power. Also his version of Government is beyond debate.

Political parties like MQM formally and PTI informally ‘embracing’ Qadri’s version and columnists like Hassan Nisar praising Qadri as if he’s long-waited Imam-Mehdi, gives a hint that Sheikh-ul-Islam is being backed/launched by uncle-sam. In my humble opinion, he’s just a ‘guest-appearance’ for an ‘item number’ or two, just to give whole story a boost and enhance ‘marketability’.

All I, or common people like me, can do is keep our eyes open and pray to Almighty that none of our political leaders fall prey to Qadri’s attractive words and derail the system for worst.

May Almight save us and our beloved country for Qadri sb’s conspiracy is no smaller than that of doomsday conspiracy

AKB or any other Pakistani Muslim, non-Ahmadi friend,

In the Liberal Tribune, Ayesha Siddiqa makes an important assertion supportive of Tajender’s view – that Tahirul Qadri might be an agent of Western powers. Her specific allegation is that Tahirul Qadri changes his stance on blasphemy depending upon his audience.

I have not read Tahirul Qadri’s fatwa which carries a foreword by Esposito and Hayward. If anybody else here has, I would appreciate an explanation how Mr Qadri’s stance has changed, if it has.

I am less interested in Mr Qadri as a person and more in the possibility, suggested by Ayesha Siddiqui that Western Powers may be attempting to do in Pakistan what Pakistan has essentially been doing in Afghanistan – install pliable right-wing leadership.

Many thanks in advance for any informed and thoughtful responses.

On face value, the video provided by Krash, simply indicates that Qadri is neither a mister, nor a religious scholar but is urgently in need of a medical treatment. He has probably gone crackers and should be told about it.

All of a sudden we have an angel descending upon us from the West to save us as yet another last hope! What happened to Imran Khan as our last hope? Hi,

Read your interesting opinion, I love the way you have criticised every aspect of Tahir ul Qadri’s previous work, the 23 Dec event, posters, his work done overseas and his organisation set up Minhaj-ul-Quran. HOWEVER you have not made any references to what he actually proposed during the 23rd Dec speech- FAIR AND JUST ELECTIONS, I wonder why?

Is it because you cannot criticise it?

The truth is the corruption within the electoral system is the root cause of all problems. I congratulate Mr Qadri for taking a stand and helping the nation of Pakistan. I also congratulate him, unlike others he did not play the blame game nor bad mouth a single person, he came with an agenda and solution- something we have not heard from our dear power houses.

The media needs to start playing its role, stop being biased. Change is on its way- I support you Mr Qadri and will be with you #14Jan #Islamabad. Thank you for saving us!!

Tahir Qadri has not changed his stance re Blasphemy laws…he admitted that there were flaws in the execution of blasphemy laws but is in favor of the law itself. I don’t see anything wrong with it because the Blasphemy laws equally apply to both Muslims and non-Muslims…and, infact more strictly to Muslims themselves.

    .

I hear him talk daily on the local tv and until now haven’t find anything shocking or surprising in his statements that would be of much doubt. He wants to ”reform” the execution of the
Constitution, by the people, for the people, of the people. He talks sense but the only intriguing factor about him is that parties such as Mqm and PTI have readily accepted him and his policy …Qadri also uttered a symapathetic word about Ch Shujaat. On the contrary his bent of mind is against Nawaz Shareef …..as evident from his remarks to Kamran Khan of Geo Tv.
    .

I don’t think Qadri is working on any agenda of foreign powers based on the fact that he has a great following in 90 countries of the world which is amazing!! If somebody thinks he is an agent of some foreign power then the question that may be asked him is ”Which ruler is not in Pakistan??”

    .
Qadri seems to be yet another ”bazoor” (shadow frofet and Messiah) like Mirja Ghulla who has come to reform Mirjaism and to emancipate the Mirjai’s from the grip of the Muslims!! I hope the Mirjai murteds would be happy over his appearance and salute him for being their next Imam Mehdi.
    Mirja

Thanks AKB. Glad to know that TQ has not changed his stance re blasphemy laws. Frankly, I am not too concerned about what he told those blithering idiots interviewing him, who have no appreciation for Islam.

But as someone who gets to follow TQ only cursorily, I am a bit intrigued by MQM’s prompt alliance with him, or PTI’s, or thus of both MQM’s and PTI’s with each other. And then there is this somewhat anti PML(N) stance. The ‘army angle’ offers one plausible explanation. Are there some other explanations that we should be aware of?

  21. @kaalchakra: i agree with your stance. people only see what’s on the surface. Sometimes words spoken has no value in comparison with meanings that lay behind those words.
TQ has been a controversial character, he’s best known for pulling political stunts n stepping back. Qadri has no political standing to have MQM PTI and PML-Q on his side that too so promptly. There’s something cooking in the background, that’s what intrigues me the most. I have nothing personal against Qadri, its Pakistan, my motherland, am concerned the most about.
    May God Bless us

Tahir ul Qadri does not change his position on things like blasphemy. He would always like to kill anyone – muslim or non muslim – who criticizes prophet Muhammad or Islam. But he speaks in two tongues to a Muslim and non-Muslim audience. This is not un-Islamic. It is according to the practice of taqiyyah. TQ is a holy Sheikh who practices what he teaches.

there is nothing such as taqayya in Islam….

    .
a chowdhry of Qadian told his cronies to find a bride for his son who was so coy and naive as anybody who knew nothing about sex.
His cronies soon found such a bride and she got married to mirja Qadian’s son.
After the nuptial wedding night the groom came to offer his salaam to his papa.
How was the bride?? Asked the chodhery to his son.
‘not bad, pa” replied the son, ”she is very naive and coy indeed’
    ‘how come” inquired chowdhrey
‘she wouldn’t keep the takya (pillow) under her head ”
    so?
‘she placed it under her hips”!!

so boys, don’t accuse Muslims of taqayya…it is not Islamic but could be some cultural etiquette of Irani shias or Mirjai deviates!!

thanks for your appreciation…the truth is that IF TQ is a hoax why are the Pakistani politicians vehemently scared of him?? TQ only wants govt to implement upon constitutional stipulations. Nothing wrong with that demand. However, it’s amazing that with passage of time he has won millions of hearts who welcomed him in Pakistan and are prepared to fight for his cause. I first heard of him in 1978 when i went to see his close friend (perhaps now late)Khwaja Ashraf aka pepsicola fame…in PECHS , karachi…TQ started his ”dars” from Ashraf’s house…in Karrachi. His following consisted mainly of Mullah type people which i didn’t want to indulge in….so never attended his lectures nor watched him on tv after he left for Canada.
His sudden return to Pakistan is however quite mysterious ….and it’s amazing to note his clout!!
He appears to be something like Khomeini…….bad news for Mirjai’s!!

    —————-

    tajender

Striving for Muslim rule over non-Muslims is not a bad thing – neither logically nor morally. Because they follow Islam, Muslims have better moral character – on average as individuals, on average as societies – than Hindus or other non-Muslims can have. Muslims are more trustworthy, and just (speaking, again, in overall terms). As better individuals with better way of life, they have a right to rule over the rest. If they ever are unjust, they can fix their injustice – which is not possible, or not so easy, for Hindus and the rest.

That is the reason we do not allow nor should allow any visible Hinduism etc in public space. Islam alone MUST control the public space because it has a cleansing effect – slowly, may be with some hiccups, but surely. It builds over time, like a rising tide. We need some Hindus to help us keep that process smooth and unhindered, and thus saving the idea of India. Once Muslims take over fully, on relative terms, there would be fewer religious problems in India than there are now. That’s why I place my trust in the followers and progeny of Sarat Chandra Bose.

  31. kaalchakra United States Google Chrome Windows says:

    On taqiyaa

Tajender, it is true that taqiyya constitutes more a doctrine of shia’ism than of Islam, but the general rule that a Muslim is not obliged to tell the truth or even tell anything to a non-Muslim is valid.

Think of it this way to see why that makes sense. A Muslim’s obligations are to Allah, to Holy Quran, and to Prophet Muhammad. FROM those primary and sole obligations follow other obligations, to man and the beast and the nature.

To the extent these latter are aligned to a Muslim’s primary obligations (to Allah, to Holy Quran, and Prophet Muhammad) a Muslim will, and obviously must tell the truth and honor all interactions and (secondary) obligations. When those are not aligned it gets much more murky.

  32. kaalchakra United States Google Chrome Windows says:

AKB, I read your post on taqiyya after I posted mine, so let me explain to you what I think happens in practice.

I think for Muslims it boils down to nothing more than personal courage, understanding and faith. A lot of sufis and deviates who do not have faith and lack personal integrity are always looking to what “they should say” or how they should say it so as not to displease unbelievers. A person of real faith in Islam need not afraid to say it as it is. Such a person is open and willing to talk about discuss anything with anyone because he or she is not apologetic.

But we must recognize that this sort of courage and faith is rather rare, particularly when one human being sees his or her personal temporal interests to be tied to, or at the mercy of unbelievers who might not think so highly or Islam, or may even be hostile to it.

KAAL,………Decision on right-wing outfit ban in 45 days, Centre to HC.

The Central government on Thursday said that the decision on banning right-wing organisation Sanatan Sanstha by terming it a terror outfit under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) would be taken in 45 days.

Vijay Rokhade had filed a public interest litigation in the Bombay high court demanding that the organisation be termed a terror outfit, owing to its alleged activities that could destruct the administrative and legal governance.

The state home department too had earlier recommended that right-wing Hindu outfits such as the Sanatan Sanstha, Hindu Janjagruti Samiti and Dharna Shakti Sena should be termed terrorist organisations under the Act.

GR Sharma, counsel for the Centre, told the Bombay high court that the ministry of home affairs would look into the state government’s proposal on banning the outfit.

An affidavit filed by the anti-terrorism squad last year had stated that only the Central government has the authority to declare any organisation unlawful under section 3 of the Act. The Centre can independently investigate and assess the outfits, the affidavit had stated.

The affidavit had attached a copy of the proposal sent by the additional chief secretary of the home department to the director of the ministry of home affairs in April 2011, noting that three bomb blast cases have been registered against the activists.

After considering the proposal, the Centre will send its recommendation to the Unlawful Activities Prevention that will take a final decision.

  47. kaalchakra United States Mozilla Firefox Ubuntu Linux says:

Yes, I am glad that Indians have a constitution, so at least they don’t have to rely on Hindu culture and religion. But brother tajender, don’t forget that the constitution was given by a dalit Hindu who had been seduced by Brahmins who sent him a brahmin daughter – a vishkanya – these Hindus call such women (and you know about Hindu women already).

So none of this can be a solution to the problem of Hindus.

By the way, brother, the problem is not India, but Hindus – those 33 crorer circus worshippers who lie and cheat all the time.

  48. kaalchakra United States Mozilla Firefox Ubuntu Linux says:

Besides, it’s hard to imagine anyone but a good Muslim being so generous as to still talk of “our constitution”, “our foregin minister” while being so utterly deprived, and living with such an evil majority as Hindus following such a circus of a religion which promotes nothing such lying, cheating, sex, and entertaining. This is patriotism as its best. OK, I am half kiddding, but not entirely. Your patriotism, nationalism, and commitment to saving India from Hindus, like that of drone, is admirable (though probably misguided since it ultimately puts too much trust in the very same Hindus).

  49. Milestogo United States Safari iPhone says:

All the Muslims here are misguided and borderline kuffar –

Rexi thinks Osama is the solution, drona thinks Facebook is solution, Akb thinks converting ahmedis is solution,

Kuffar has corrupted Muslim minds –

    1. Facebook is haram to begin with – we need edhi and Abdus Salam
    2. Conversion business is haram – those are pagan and Christian practices
    3. Every body is already Muslim regardless of beliefs
    4. Seeking knowledge makes one better Muslim – which means that einstine is a better Muslim than muhammed
    5. Muhammed was just a postman – he never understood the message
    6. Osama killed innocents – he is already in hell…
    7. God is very efficient – Islam is already written in the DNA – no need for conversions and memorizing Quran..
