- ECP vows not to delay polls as TTP attacks continue
The election commission of Pakistan vowed not to delay the elections even by a ‘single day’ as polls related attacks killed at least six more people while Taliban distributed pamphlets in some cities warning citizens against participating in the elections. A bike bomb explosion at an MQM election office in Karachi’s Nusrat Bhutto Colony at around 10pm on Thursday killed at least five people and injured 15 others. Earlier, in the day, two bikers hurled a grenade on an election office of a PPP candidate in Baluchistan’s in Nushki district, killing one person and injuring another.
- ANP protests against JI’s use of mosque
The Awami National Party has decided to approach the Election Commission of Pakistan to protest over the Jamaat-e-Islami’s use of a mosque to campaign for the general elections. The move follows JI chief Syed Munawar Hasan’s address at a political gathering in a mosque on University Road in Peshawar Wednesday afternoon.
- ECP, FBR withholding details of defaulters
The Lahore High Court learnt that the Election Commission of Pakistan, Federal Board of Revenue and others were not producing details about 1,329 election candidates who defaulted on taxes, utility bills, agriculture or other government dues.
