Taliban and Sharia: A Comparison

Athar Mahmood

Nowadays, on TV shows, many die-hard supporters and sympathizers of the Taliban are propounding their agenda to enforce sharia, and form a society within the Islamic parameters.

I ponder are they actually so naïve or deliberately trying to make us deluded souls. Imperialism is being shielded under Islamic rule of laws; barbarism is being introduced under the camouflage of Islamic culture and so on. Worth noting is the point that everything is being charted out in the name of Islam. This article is an attempt to expose the Taliban’s misunderstanding of Islamic principles and their self-proposed agendas in the light of Quranic verses.

Islam does not require weapon or force to implement its teachings. Carrying a gun or rocket launcher can be the tradition of tribes but not of Islam. Those fanatics talk of Sharia who blatantly deny its principles. Their acts are totally in opposition to Islam’s injunctions. Their demands are against Islam. For instance, Islam denounces anarchy in the land as it is stated in the holy Quran;

“Whosoever killed a person, unless it is for killing a person or for creating disorder in the land, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind.” (5:32)

It does not become a believer to kill a believer. (4:91)

Now all those blathering on about implementing sharia need to look at the bloodshed they caused. They have set unparalleled precedents of atrocities.

About this chaos Quran says; disorder is worse than killing (2:191)

Quran also narrates its sentence, saying “they be slain or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off on alternate sides” (5:33) reveals the fundamental motivation of Islam is to eliminate every object that ruins the peace and harmony of society.

Even in worse condition Muslims were told to be patient and obey their rulers instead of mutiny or rebellion. Some Hadiths narrates these injunctions.

Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about rulers; Listen to them and obey them, for on them shall be the burden of what they do and on you shall be the burden of what you do.

SahihMuslim,hadith no 4552.

On another occasion, the holy Prophet said: After me, there will be favoritism and many things that you will not like.

They (Prophet’s companions) said: Messenger of Allah, what do you order that one should do it anyone from us has to live through such a time? The holy Prophet replied: You should discharge your own responsibility (by obeying your Amir), and ask God to concede your right (by guiding the Amir to the right path or by replacing him by one more just and God-fearing)

Sahih Muslim, Hadith no 4545

Is there a single sign of gun-enforcement? Does sharia allow them to hostage whole nation? But a step forward, Hadith describes such a person who withdraws his obedience from the governance, an ignorant and his death is considered the death of Jahalat (ignorance).

As below hadith states;

“One who dislikes a thing done by his Amir should be patient over it, for anyone from the people who withdraws (his obedience) from the government, even to the extent of a hand span and died in that conditions, would die the death of one belonging to the days of ignorance.” Sahih Muslim 4560.

Muslims were told in earlier ages of Islam that there shall be people having the same complexion as Muslims and chanting the pure Islamic demands, but what we were ordered about them, separation from all these factions, even if one have to eat the roots of trees.

“Messenger of Allah, we were in the midst of ignorance and evil, and then God brought us this good (time through Islam). Is there any bad time after this good one? He said: Yes. I asked: Will there be a good time again after that bad time? He said: Yes, but therein will be a hidden evil. I asked: What will be the evil hidden therein? He said: (That time will witness the rise of) the people who will adopt ways other than mine and seek guidance other than mine.

You will know good points as well as bad points. I asked: Will there be a bad time after this good one? He said: Yes. (A time will come) when there will be people standing and inviting at the gates of Hell. Whoso responds to their call they will throw them into the fire. I said: Messenger of Allah, describe them for us. He said: All right. They will be a people having the same complexion as ours and speaking our language. I said: Messenger of Allah, what do you suggest if I happen to live in that time? He said: You should stick to the main body of the Muslims and their leader. I said: If they have no (such thing as the) main body and have no leader? He said: Separate yourself from all these factions, though you may have to eat the roots of trees (in a jungle) until death comes to you and you are in this state.”

Sahih Mushlim,4553.

Above mentioned hadith clarifies it that long bearded face, deep-accented recitation, and white clothes should not mislead you. By forming unlimited factions, narrating Islamic agendas, a vandal does not become the savior of Islam. Such groups are looking for their personal empire on the wreckage of Islam. There is no doubt that bombing schools, killing school going children, destroying hotels, deteriorating shrines, shattering markets, and spreading fear is not a part of Islam or Sharia.

Precisely, the Sharia, Islam or peace are good words but they are being narrated for shoddy causes.
